Key Diagnostic or Identification
Approved Method(s)
ID/Diagnostic: Morphological: Identification of adults and late instar larvae is possible with some expertise/experience in Scirtothrips/ Thysanoptera. As per NIS, States may go to reliable entomologists/taxonomists for identification. The Chilli Thrips Task Force has named G.B. Edwards, Gillian Watson, Jack Reed, and Cindy McKenzie as approved taxonomists for chilli thrips identification.
Mistaken Identities: Other thrips families and genera
Frankliniella schultzei, S. aurantii, and S. oligochaetus.
