This species has some similarities to Scrobipalpopsis petasitis (present in North America and Europe) and S. tetradymiella (present in the United States). Two similar species that are found in potato include Phthorimaea operculella and Symmetrischema tangolias. Both larvae and adults of these species are smaller than those of T. solanivora.
